Malta Maritime Seed Award 2019
MarSA, the Maritime Seed Award, set up jointly by Malta Marittima and the University of Malta in 2017, has enabled various teams of entrepreneurs and researches to receive funding. An awards ceremony took place at the University TAKEOFF Business Incubator and was presided by Prof. Ing. Saviour Zammit, Pro-Rector for Research & Knowledge Transfer, Mr. Jason Bongailas, Senior Manager of Malta Marittima Agency, Prof. Russell Smith, Director of the University’s Centre for Entrepreneurship and Business Incubation, and Dr Ing. Anton Bartolo, Director of the University Knowledge Transfer Office, attended this event. A total of €159,980 was awarded to beneficiaries between 2018 and the first call in 2019.
European Biotech Week
Malta Marittima together with AquabioTech Group celebrated the Biotech Week by organising a conference at the premises of AquabioTech in Mosta. The event was held on Tuesday 1st October 2019 and focused on the promotion of the blue biotech R&I and research collaboration in the EU. Malta Marittima Agency has set up specifically a BlueBiotechnology Cluster working group in order to address specific issues on this relatively new emerging sub-sector of the Integrated Maritime Policy.

Malta Marittima producing a "Malta Blue Economy Handbook"
As part of the drive to raise awareness of the Malta blue economy, Malta Marittima will be producing a "Malta Blue Economy Handbook" early in 2020. The Handbook will describe the wide range of activities in the maritime sector and provide an insight into how the industry works together - now and as it plans for the future.
